Today I decided to spend the day venturing through a used book shop and studying at a coffeehouse. I picked half priced books and found an english version of the Koran as well as a book about Muslim traditions/culture. Then I took a seat at Spyhouse Coffee and had the BEST americano of my life. Hands down. Though I am very interested to go back to Springfield, MO to test out the espresso from The Coffee Ethic, because 1) i’ve heard from several people that the technique they use makes their espresso the best in the city or state or some larger area… 2) I had my first espresso there. If I ever live in that city, The Coffee Ethic would be on my long list of places I would like to work.

Spyhouse Coffee

I’m still very tired from the end of the semester – I feel like I could sleep for a week! My internship starts tomorrow, but I am not nervous in the slightest. I think I am more nervous about falling behind in my online art history class then nervous about being an intern!
Here are some collected photos from today:

2. Type Designer Blog

All things type. Lots to learn about type design!

Another project website – scrolling through community/individual projects to see what people in the world are up to.

4. JCrew

I really enjoy JCrew. Next to Banana Republic, it is probably my favorite store. I definitely don’t visit there very often and don’t own much of their clothing, but I appreciate their simple style.

5. A Beautiful Mess

This has been one of my favorite blogs for close to 3 years now. Interesting fact – they live in Springfield MO! Once I found this out (after I moved back to Iowa, of course) I went down to visit and went to their shop. Of course I was way too nervous to introduce myself and tell them how much I loved their design & blog! Maybe next time 😉

6. Sweet Sketchbooks

I found some photos browsing the web of sweet things in designer sketchbooks. Sketchbooks are equal to journals in my opinion. Looking back on past sketches and projects, I can easily determine what I was feeling and what was going on in that time of life. These sketches are inspiring because these artists obviously spend more time on their sketches than I do! Though it makes it much more interesting.

Inspiration for design projects!!

8. The Beauty Aside

I absolutely adore this design set.

9. The Sartorialist

Different styles, different fashion, different cities. This photographer is amazing, I’ve been following the blog for years now. Only sometimes do I actually like the style of people on the blog, but nevertheless it is very interesting!

10. Kinfolk Videos 🙂

I arrived in Minneapolis yesterday. It’s interesting because when I used to move to a different place it was as if it never felt like home and I had to try to find a “home” there – which actually caused me a lot of stress. Well now, back in Ames feels like home and when I got here, it feels like wherever I go is home. I don’t chalk that up to Minneapolis, I think it’s part of knowing who I am in Christ and finding comfort in Him rather that circumstances. It’s something I’ve definitely been praying for the last few years that I would start to understand.

Last night right after I moved my things in my room, I decided to work out. I think I can actually see a difference in my arms – hopefully I am not imagining things! We went to dinner afterward where I had the most amazing veggie burger and sweet potato fries. Later I decided to go on a walk and wander around and found a Trader Joe’s just minutes away. I’m not sure if anyone knows how happy this makes me? SO. Happy. Especially after deciding to go vegetarian this summer. : )
I spent the night writing emails, journaling, and doing homework. IMG_7894 IMG_7895

Recipe finds!

1. Chocolate Granola Bars

2. Strawberry Nutella Poptarts

Tea party anyone?? 🙂

3. World’s Best Chicken

I’m not a huge fan of mustard, but I would really like to try this sometime soon!

4. Simple Bean Salad

This could easily become my lunch staple this summer. I’m going vegetarian this summer (basically am anyway, so why not, right?)

5. Quinoa Primavera with Chicken, Spring Peas, and Asparagus

Zach and I made this one night for dinner, it was really simple, but very filling! I like the recipe, because you can easily keep the spinach and garlic and change up the vegetables.

6. Raw Banana Bread Breakfast Bars

This blog is definitely going to be a great resource for these coming months. YUM. Also, I love making breakfast bars, so it’ll be nice to try some new recipes.

7. Sweet Potato Fries

Not only do I love sweet potatoes, I also enjoy this recipe because it’s a bit healthier than other versions. I also like just about all of the recipes on this site because it is healthy and fresh 🙂

8. Blood Orange Braised Cabbage on Barley

The only reason I’m putting this on this post is because I feel as if I would never make something like this! It seems such a different combination! Something worth trying for sure.

9. Apple Cucumber Celery Kale Ginger Juice

Maybe I could shorten the name to….ACCKG (Ack-gg) Juice…hmm….but juicing is a great way for your body to absorb a large amount of nutrients in a short amount of time. I once tried to make “green juice” without a recipe. Let’s just say, that I can’t really eat cucumbers anymore. After finding this recipe though, I think I’ll give it another try.

Rachel Louise

I woke up from a dream that I bought rainboots for a dollar to a lovely rainy morning. I definitely should’ve packed for Minneapolis last night,  but oh well! An adventure, right? Well, it’s the perfect day for packing to my favorite Rachel Louise songs. : )

1. Digital Art Tutorials

A page I came across while working on an Animation project – trying how to create the “low-poly” look. After taking the Animation studio, I have a new found appreciating for computer arts, especially C4D and After Effects. Honestly, I think that class taught me more than any other class at ISU. I struggled through it and earned an “A” at the end of the semester! Definitely one of my proudest academic moments. I think if you have animation art under your belt, you are set for a career in graphic design.

2. Organizing Finances

I appreciate this article, because it puts in simple terms how to take control of your finances. Although I wish it went more in-depth with each step, it’s a good way to start looking at your finances as something that is under your control. I’m slowly learning how to properly take care of my finances. I don’t want my life to seem in order, but then my finances a mess. Articles such as these are encouraging, but it’s better to get advice from a christian perspective, such as Dave Ramsey. I’m going through this book right now, and it’s very straightforward and challenging. (in a very good way!)

3. Simple Kitchens

The house I live in now is somewhat retro…all you have to do is glance at the floor. It is nice and open but I don’t appreciate the setup or color palette. It’s interesting living with four other ladies – everyone has their own style. Most of my roommates have brightly color dish ware, while my dishes sit in a cabinet, tucked away, with an all-white color palette – just the way I like it. My ideal kitchen would be open, bright, fresh, minimal, and mostly white!

4. Des Moines Art Center

Only near the end of this last semester did I realize that they have fun events! They had a film festival near the middle of March which caught my attention. I haven’t ventured in DSM very much, but I plan to keep my eye on these events next semester so that when I need a break, I can do something fun and different!

5. Sketching

These photos encourage me to sketch much more than I do! My professors would definitely love it!

6. Sustainable Cities Collective

It’s interesting to see what cities all over the world are doing to be sustainable. Taking a look at other projects helps me to understand Design Across Boundaries better and gives me ideas about how to implement sustainability into what we are doing.

7. This site

I actually have no idea how I found this site or what it is, but I like the style of clothing (most of it anyway)!

8. Shrewsbury
